About Ferrer Pediatrics

At Ferrer Pediatrics we believe medical conditions shouldn’t define children’s future. With over 20 years of experience, we’ve seen children achieve what many thought was impossible. We understand that every child is different and has the ability to overcome challenges when provided with the right tools.

We work closely with families because we understand that a one-size fits all approach doesn’t work, and that supporting and enabling caregivers is as important as physical therapy sessions.

Maria Teresa Ferrer

Dr. Maria Teresa Ferrer completed her studies in Medellin, Colombia at the Colombian University Jaime Isaza Cadavid in 1987. She started her own practice in 1989 in Medellin, Antioquia.

Upon moving to the United States, she completed her doctorate in Physical Therapy at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa in 2006. She is currently a member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics. Maria Teresa is certified in treatment of Traumatic Brain Injuries, Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT), and early intervention.

Maria Teresa has extensive experience providing physical therapy to children with brain injuries and other conditions that affect upper and lower extremities. She practices Brachial Plexus Injury Management, Constraint Induced Movement Therapy, Movement Inhibition Therapy, Neuro-connection, Dynamic Casting, Vojta and more.

She is working to break down the bounds of distance to help families and practitioners all over the world do the most they can for their children and patients. She consults on a national and international level, following up on patients and families to ensure any accomplishments and skills are maintained.

Maria believes in continuously motivating children to reach their full potential. She focuses on the big picture of what they can achieve rather than their physical limitations. She strives to help prevent children from having to rely on equipment to move.

What Parents Are Saying

“Maria is one of the best therapist we have worked with. She knows body physiology so well, that she can watch my son move in a video and tell me what is wrong and what needs to be done. Like she has x-ray vision.

No one better handled correctly my son like Maria did. We literally saw changes in my son’s x-ray after 10 days of intensive therapy.”

— Shwetha, Sidhu’s Mom

“It is hard to put into words to describe the exceptional services and care Maria provides. To put it into a nutshell, if you want your child to reach their maximum potential, then Maria is the therapist you need to see!

We fly from Idaho to see her and it is worth every penny and minute that it takes.

She is not just a physical therapist, she is so well trained in every area of therapy from dynamic casting, to helping overcome compensation from visual impairments and bad motor patterns.

I can’t say enough how much Maria not only helped my son, but overall helped our entire family!”

— Wes Pahl, Cooper’s Dad

“Wow! Where can I start… Maria is by far one of the best physical therapist we have worked with. She does not treat a child based on symptoms but deals with the neurological aspect as well in making connections and helping children move and progress.

By doing her program, my son was able to integrate his reflexes, excellent head control and he is well on his way to progressing towards independent sitting and walking.

From the very first interaction, to when we got to Iowa, she has been amazing and has followed up to help him move to the next level!”

— Shinelle Toby, Micah’s Mom

“Ferrer Pediatrics was the answer to our prayers! We have a 6-month-old baby with Hypotonia and Developmental delay and for the past 6 months we’ve struggled to find the right therapist for him. We’ve been to hospital and private therapists but none of them seemed to be very knowledgeable or have a well-planned program or direction, but the worst of all was that none of them seem to help our son in any way form or fashion. In our desperation to find the right Therapist for our son, we found Maria Ferrer and even though she was out of town and we had to travel a long way to see her, it was the best decision we could have made. We went for a 2-week Intensive Physical Therapy program, but by the third day we started seeing changes in our son’s development, and by the end of the 2 weeks the changes were very significant and noticeable. Along with our sessions we had a well-prepared therapy program to take home with us and keep working with our son. Maria Ferrer is not only very passionate about her job, but also very professional, knowledgeable and well-prepared therapist. We are beyond thankful for finding her and highly recommend Ferrer Pediatrics to any parent who is searching for the best therapist for their children. Thank you Maria!”

— Sandra Nava, Oliver’s Mom
